OPTION 1: MOST BUTTERY (Paula Deen)
2 cups flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 stick cold butter, cubed small 🧈
ΒΎ cup milk

OPTION 2: MOST TRADITIONAL (Alton’s grandmother)
2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons cold butter, cubed small 🧈
2 tablespoons Crisco, chilled
1 cup buttermilk, chilled

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat oven to 450ΒΊ

  • Combine dry ingredients in large bowl

  • Cut in butter until there are no large pieces (will look like cornmeal)

  • Make a well, pour in milk, toss in flour from sides to cover well

  • Using hands, reach down the sides of the bowl and bring the bottom contents onto the top. Continue gently combining the ingredients in this way until fully combined.

  • Add milk or flour if necessary

  • Plop mixture out onto floured surface and roll out 1” thick with floured rolling pin

  • Cut biscuits and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper

  • Bake 15–20 min. or until golden brown (or desired color)


OPTION 3: EASIEST (Forumla L + buttermilk)
